LMA builds business up for Boral
Boral seeks consistent, organisation wide management training
The Boral business divisions recognised the need to more consistently train and develop their frontline leaders. In order to gain this consistency, representatives of all business divisions participated in the tendering and selection process for a nationwide management and leadership development program which resulted in Boral's current relationship with Leadership Management Australia .
Prior to using LMA, Boral was without a coordinated approach towards training, using numerous providers for frontline leadership development across Australia. A consistent approach has enabled Boral to more closely link frontline leadership development with succession management.
Training for personal and professional development
At Boral, effective training is not just about improving professional skills. Michael Craner, General Manager Learning and Organisational Development at Boral explains, "LMA's training is challenging and addresses the needs and objectives of the whole human being, not just the professional aspects."
Andrew Patterson, Human Resources Manager for Australian Construction Materials at Boral also highlights the LMA personal/professional balance. He says, "Being involved with the LMA process from the start, I've had the opportunity to attend some group sessions at the start and finish of a course. The difference we see in the individual is quite amazing."
Practical applications for LMA training
Michael adds, "Through teaching effective goal setting and establishing workplace projects, Boral's staff are encouraged and given the tools to improve the business within their control. LMA teaches people to break each project into manageable pieces so they achieve their goals, without feeling overwhelmed."
Michael also advised that, "The average benefits identified through participation in the program were in excess of $100,000 per participant."
Partnership between Boral and LMA
At Boral, training is an internally driven process. As Michael explains, "We don't see ourselves as outsourcing our training, as we are always actively involved. Every LMA Facilitator is put through a Boral induction process to help them understand the business."
Michael continues, "We are in constant communication with LMA. Keeping on the same page is vitally important to Boral as we have training being conducted regularly across Australia. I would describe Boral's relationship with LMA as a partnership with both parties working together towards a common goal."
An ongoing future relationship
Michael concludes, "LMA has definitely delivered above expectations. Boral now has an across the board approach for frontline leadership development delivered locally and producing great results for the individuals involved, their managers and our business."
