Jim’s Fencing Australia highlights importance in safe fencing

by Jim's Fencing Australia

Jim’s Fencing Australia highlights the importance of safe fencing, especially around the home where children are about. The family home is the most common place for children to be injured with tragic stories including toddlers falling into swimming pools, getting out onto driveways or being mauled by dangerous dogs.

Warren Smith of Jim’s Fencing Australia, says that these causes of childhood injury, in most cases, can be avoided by simply installing the right fence. According to Smith, in the upcoming summer season, it is extremely important for pool owners to check their pool fences are secure and the gates are not faulty.

“Hinges and locking mechanisms need to be in correct working order. It’s unbelievable the amount of pool fences we see that haven’t been maintained and can pose a serious threat. I mean what’s the point of having a pool fence if a child can easily open the gate and gain access to the pool area?” said Smith.

Driveways can also be as dangerous to children as a pool and parents should consider installing a fence and a safety-gate to help secure the area.

“There has been a terrible spate of accidents where children have been able to access a driveway and this has resulted in tragedy,” said Smith. Another area of injury that can be easily prevented is dangerous dogs getting into or out of properties.

“We are able to dog-proof a yard. We can install no-dig fences and no-climb fences that will prevent even the most determined animal from getting into or out of your yard,” said Smith. According to Smith, there are legal requirements for home owners with pools and dangerous dogs, however the laws vary depending on the residential location.

“Part of the problem is the lack of standardization around the country. There are different rules and regulations concerning fences for each council and State as to what the requirements are,” said Smith.

“But homeowners and landlords need to take responsibility to ensure the security of their property. Safety and security is what fencing is all about.”
