Jani-King franchise taking care of the elderly
The population is aging. The aged care business is booming and struggling to keep up. Age is a high growth market. Enter Jani-King, now boasting a new Environmental Services Division – one of the first companies in Australia to establish a broad set of standards for the cleaning of hospitals and aged care facilities.
"All the factors were very clear," says Jani-King's Managing Director, Ben Stoltz, "There was an opportunity to develop a national program focused on specialised training, quality control and communication that would give our franchisees an edge in the niche."
So why didn't competitors see it? The probable answer is that they did, but it looked too hard. There can be enormous time and investment involved in research, setting up, retraining, re-equipping and producing niche-specific marketing plans.
Mr Stoltz says cleaning in the healthcare sector is highly specialised and Jani-King's EVS Division had created a formal program for training in correct procedures. He says the key difference in healthcare cleaning, as opposed to general commercial cleaning, is much higher risks of infection and cross-contamination.
"Knowledge, the right gear and quality control are more critical and beyond the technical side, we also need to train our franchisees on how to present well and communicate with the kind of people present when cleaning takes place."
Mr Stoltz said several Jani-King franchisees were already providing cleaning services in the healthcare sector and the purpose of the EVS Division was to validate that activity, raise awareness of Jani-King's standards and capitalise on the large demand for cleaners with formal training in the area. All franchisees who wish, in the future, to clean hospitals or aged care facilities must complete Jani-King's EVS Program.
"This includes EVS operations manuals, training videos and interactive DVD-based training programs, followed by extensive hands-on training and evaluation within hospitals and aged care facilities," says Stoltz.
Jani-King Australia now invoices over $70 million annually with 850 franchisees across Australia and New Zealand.
