Jani-King franchise cleans up awards night
Taylors Lakes residents and Jani-King franchise partners, Ian and Agnes Coventry, recently ‘cleaned-up’ at the Melbourne Kimberly-Clark Golden Service Awards, taking out the prestigious award in the category of Leisure and Hospitality for the second year running.
The awards were held at the Melbourne Crown Casino and the Coventrys were nominated for their work at the Hilton Melbourne Airport Hotel, defending their title as winners in the same category for 2004.
“We’re just thrilled with the win – we’ve been cleaning the Hilton Melbourne Airport Hotel for three-and-a-half years and it’s great for our employees to be recognised that their work is of such a high standard,” Agnes Coventry says.
The Kimberly-Clark Golden Service Awards recognise excellence in cleaning in the building services industry across Australia and nominees are judged not only on the actual presentation of the property, but also on how innovative they are in the delivery of their service.
“We believe it’s important to go above and beyond the call of duty and we’re constantly exploring new and innovative ways to improve our service,” Ian Coventry says.
“It’s not just about the cleaning – if we see a problem, we take the initiative to find a solution without first being asked and as a result, we’ve made many recommendations and improvements that aren’t necessarily part of our job description.
“By doing this, we prove our value because we anticipate the client’s needs before they tell us, thus making their job that little bit easier.”
It would seem this proactive attitude has certainly paid off because after just 18 months of cleaning the hotel, their contract was renewed for another four years.
“We were originally on a two year contract and after just 18 months, they said they’d like to extend it for another four years,” Agnes says.
Ian and Agnes Coventry have been Jani-King franchisees for four years and said the support and training provided by Jani-King enabled them to embrace the Hilton Melbourne Airport Hotel cleaning account with confidence.
“Taking on such a large account was a little nerve racking at first, but having the support of our regional office and knowing the system was there to back us up certainly made it less daunting,” Ian says.
“Jani-King trained us in everything we needed to know and they’re still only a phone call away if we ever need advice or support.”
The Coventrys and their 55 staff will be cleaning the Hilton Melbourne Airport Hotel for at least another two-and-a-half years and if things continue the way they’re going, they’ll soon have many more awards to add to the collection.
