Ivan Poole - Principal

Ivan Poole was admitted as a solicitor in New Zealand in 1965 and has practised at partnership level since that time in New Zealand, Hong Kong and Gold Coast Australia since August 1980. Ivan has extensive experience in franchising, licensing, distribution and intellectual property for over 20 years.

Ivan has undertaken a huge variety of work for more than 100 franchisor companies, from review of documentation to creating complete sets of documents for franchises. He has acted for a number of franchisors from inception to successful sale and for many franchisees in buying and selling franchises. He also has considerable international experience, and acts for a large franchisor from New Zealand within Australia and Australian franchisors in New Zealand and overseas.

Ivan also has experience with franchisors and franchisees in dispute resolution procedures, mediation and generally liaising with both franchisors and franchisees to ensure a commercial solution to problems that arise.

Ivan has considerable experience in trade marks worldwide, ranging from lodging objections to documentation such as trade mark coexistence and trade mark licensing.

Ivan has also prepared numerous distribution and licence agreements for parties that do not wish to or do not have to franchise and he is known to be very lateral in his thinking. He believes that any commercial requirement can be documented and the preparation of such documents across a broad range of legal areas is his main specialty.

Ivan has also had considerable experience in structuring. The basis of most of his franchisor advice is structuring both for present circumstances and the future. Asset protection is part of that structuring plan as is exit strategies for franchisors.

Ivan has a speedy turnaround of documentation which is commercially important and operates at a high standard with up-to-date regulation compliant documentation that is also well accepted in the market place.

Peter was admitted as a solicitor in Queensland in 2009, having completed his Postgraduate Legal Training at Bond University. Peter completed his law degree in the UK in 2005 before working for 3 years in the commercial departments of a large multi-national company and a small marketing company. His experience enables him to understand the complex and varied commercial issues faced by businesses of all sizes.
