Hunt & Hunt – The simple beginning of the legal franchisee business
The Hunt & Hunt business was started as an insurance and conveyancing law firm. Hector Hunt and Edward Hunt, the two brothers, founded the legal franchisee business in 1929. The time was not conducive to start a new business, as Australia had been entering the ‘Great Depression’. The legal advice firm was fortunate to be saved by its insurance business at that time.
During the years of the Second World War, Hunt & Hunt expanded its business, as the insurance and workers compensation practices were gaining momentum. The boom was due to an association with the National Employers Mutual General Insurance Company of London. After the war, there was a growth in conveyancing practice, as Italian and Greek migrants settled in and around Sydney.
Around 1960s, Hunt & Hunt has expanded to induct more than 100staff. The legal franchisee business opened its first branch office in Eastwood in 1973. To effectively cope up with the more competitive legal practice industry, the legal advice firm sent its managing partner, Edward Boyce to Harvard Business School to take up an intensive 14-week professional management course.
