Hudsons Coffee announces national barista champiom
After months of gruelling heats, Greenslopes Private Hospital boasts Hudsons Coffee ’s best barista, with Adam deVries being named National Barista Champion at the Hudsons Coffee 2012 Barista Competition.
The top six competitors put their coffee skills to the test - preparing 12 beverages in 15 minutes - in Melbourne last week, for the chance to take home some steaming hot prizes, including the holiday of a lifetime to Dubai and a Nuova Simonelli Musica home coffee machine worth $3,000.
The beverages were assessed on its taste, presentation, technical skill and cleanliness.
Adam wowed the judges with his signature drink which took them on a tour of fresh, local Queensland produce. The drink incorporated vanilla bean ice-cream, ginger, mango, lemongrass and the Hudsons Coffee Premium Blend espresso.
Demonstrating true dedication to his craft, Adam’s impressive technical and presentation skills, developed over the past three years, helped to distinguish him from the field.
"I am honoured to be named the 2012 Hudsons Coffee National Barista Champion and represent the Hudsons Coffee brand. With the help and support of my wife Allison I have been able to create a unique signature drink, which reflects my love of Queensland’s amazing local produce," said Adam.
Barista Melissa Slager from Albury was a deserving runner-up winner, presenting the judges with her espressos, cappuccinos and an expertly crafted signature drink, which featured almonds, cocoa and brown sugar – flavours that complement the sweetness, acidity and bitterness found in Hudsons Coffee Premium Blend espresso.
