Eco Alternatives for Renovation Projects from Hire a Tradesman

by Hire A Tradesman

Environmentally friendly methods in building works have become an essential element of every tradesman’s toolbox. Hire a Tradesman ’s Managing Director, Rob Harris, says builders should consider taking on low impact, sustainable practices and materials in their home maintenance and renovation projects. Harris offers his eco alternative tips and solutions in creating ‘greener’ building works.

Recycle Building Materials
When possible, use recycled materials as part of the building projects. This can include utilising reclaimed hardwood flooring and rep-loved fittings and fixtures, which are widely available. Harris recommends sourcing these materials locally to reduce transport energy. He also recommends choosing low-impact materials and rejecting those that are manufactured with chemicals or processed that can adversely affect one’s health or the environment.

Turning organic kitchen matter into garden compost is another method of recycling materials, which helps improve veggie patch yield and reduce general waste output.

Water Conservation
Choose appliances and fittings with a high conservation rating in order to help reduce water consumption around the property. The 5A Water Conservation Rating scale covers washing machines, dish washers, showerheads, toilets and taps.

Redirecting wastewater to the garden is an eco alternative method in water conservation. Harris explains that one utilise this water redirection by applying much and planting native plantation species that are drought-tolerant.

Hire A Tradesman offers their plumbing services who can source, deliver and install rain water tanks and wastewater systems to help create a more sustainable property.

Energy Use
An eco alternative to help reduce the use of energy in the household is with the installation of insulation and builds or curtains. These installations can help retain heat to help reduce the use of heaters, especially at night or when individuals are not at home. Hire a Tradesman offers services in installations of ceiling insulation, blinds and curtains around the property.

The best source of light, according to Harris, is utilising natural light and maximising its use by setting up your desk by the window. However when electric lights are necessary, such as during the night, Hire a Tradesman’s electricians can advise on energy efficient lightings, as well as white goods, with high efficiency energy star rating.

Hire a Tradesman also offers solar power services in which staff can help source certified Sustainable Energy Industrial Association tradesmen to install photovoltaic panels that convert sunlight into energy.
