Diabetes friendly menu at sandwich bar franchise
A new menu developed by sandwich bar franchise group Healthy Habits has been designed to help improve the prevention rates of diabetes, the sixth highest cause of death in Australia.
The new “Made for Me” menu from the healthy eating franchise network was created in conjunction with nutritionists and has been approved by Diabetes Australia.
Katherine Sampson, Founder and Managing Director of the Healthy Habits healthy eating franchise network said as an ambassador for healthy eating and living she felt compelled to help raise awareness of an issue that affected so many Australians.
“Diabetes is a serious issue with statistics showing that 100,000 people each year develop the illness,” she said. “When I found out that up to 60 percent of Type 2 cases can be prevented through healthy eating and living the obvious action was to create a menu that would offer menu items suitable for people with diabetes.
“The new wraps and sandwiches in the “Made for Me” range provide a better, healthier alternative to fast food than you can find at most fast food outlets. Approved by Diabetes Australia, the menu is tailored to provide a truly nutritionally balanced and tasty meal.”
Sampson said the menu would be featured throughout July in time for National Diabetes Week – 12 to 18 July 2009.
“During National Diabetes Week we will be encouraging all Australians to find out if they are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. There are also some risk assessment tools on the Diabetes Australia website or simply visit your GP for further information or testing.”
The "Made for Me" menu is available in all 32 Healthy Habits sandwich bar franchise locations throughout Queensland, ACT, New South Wales and Victoria.
