Self-confessed franchise addicts Sharon Jarman and Martin Rodwell have accrued three franchises in three-years.

Jarman explains how it all started in December 2005. 'We were looking for a year to see what interested us. We spent a lot of time drinking coffee in Gloria Jeans and then we saw an outlet for sale in the paper Six weeks later we were training."

In February 2007 the pair added a second Gloria Jeans franchise to their portfolio and just a month later opened up the doors to a Healthy Habits site.

"We were on holidays in Queensland when we first spotted a Healthy Habits food and beverage franchise store at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre and were very impressed as soon as we saw it," she said. "They do great salads, we just loved it.

"It's not hard working two different systems, they balance each other quite well. Healthy Habits fast food franchise is a lot more structured because there is preparation in the morning, and then a lunchtime peak. Gloria Jeans is constant from the time we open the doors. They both make about the same money."

Jarman says the Woden Healthy Habits store's turnover had grown to $60,000 per month since they opened nearly 12 months ago.

"We're quite happy with our turnover but there is always room for growth and we're currently working on ways to achieve that."

Juggling four children and three franchises has its challenges, but having all the franchise outlets in one centre eases the difficulties.

"The advantage of being in one centre is that we can keep an eye on all the franchises. It is so important to work in your own business. I'm now down at healthy Habits and Martin is at one Gloria Jeans, and a fabulous manager is getting the figures booming in our other outlet." So is the franchise acquisitions phase finished?

"If something did jump at us, I would consider another franchise. We just want to keep going."
