What to look for in a print partner By Greg Cester
Give vendors as much information as you can about what you need delivered and the way in which you need the work done to enable the printer to provide you with an accurate price.
Ask Questions
Check references and ask for feedback from other clients who have used their services and voice any concerns you may have before selecting your printer.
Find the perfect match
If you need a printer for retail or multi locations then get one with experience in this area.
Environmental initiatives
Ensure the printer has environmental management systems in place. For example, ask about the range of environmentally friendly stocks on offer or the amount of products that your printer recycles.
Look beyond the price tag
Avoid selecting a printer based solely on price. Buyers report that their most successful supplier relationships are the ones where they felt the printer offered a balance of good value and quality results.
Study the samples
Evaluate a printer’s portfolio, references and previous experience and if you’re still unsure of their capabilities ask for a tour of their business, as you can learn a lot this way.
Start small
Start with relatively small and simple projects before entrusting a “mission critical” project to them
Tie payment to performance
Just as you should be clear about project scope, make sure you define clear performance criteria.
Get it in writing
Clearly communicate the schedule, scope and payment to your printer and get confirmation from them—in writing.
