SA & WA Winners in the MYOB Excellence in Franchising Awards Announced
At regional events held in Adelaide and Perth last week, winners were announced in the following categories: Franchisee of the Year, Franchise Woman of the Year and Emerging Franchise System of the Year (WA only).
And The Winners Are......
SA
Franchisee of the Year went to Kylie Leopold and Karmen Wakelin of Endota Spa . Kylie and Karmen are multi-unit franchisees with sites in Adelaide and the Barossa. They have taken the world-class Endota Spa concept and opened up a completely new market in SA providing spa treatments not only for the rich and famous but to people from all walks of life .
Franchise Woman of the Year was awarded to Vicki Prout of Carbon Planet . Vicki has 10 years of global experience in the franchise sector and is a firm believer that franchising grows people as well as businesses. She is also an active member on the Franchise Council of Australia’s SA Chapter and Women in Franchising SA Committee.
WA
Franchisee of the Year went to Bronwyn Butcher of Frontline Recruitment Group . Bronwyn is a multi-unit franchisee who has provided an uplifting and motivating work culture. Bronwyn’s commitment to every aspect of her business and the personal development of each member of her team has made her a clear winner in this category.
Franchise Woman of the Year was awarded to Linda Steele. Linda is General Manager of CHOOKS Fresh and Tasty and has 20 years franchise experience. Since Linda began work at CHOOKS the company has seen enormous growth from 14 stores to the current 38 stores across two States. Linda is also an active member of the Women in Franchising Committee.
Emerging Franchise System of the Year went to CHOOKS Fresh and Tasty . CHOOKS is unashamedly a “low cost” fast food franchise that is continually working to find the most efficient and cost effective way of operating, making its money work harder and delivering a better financial return. The popularity of the franchise model is evident in the fact that CHOOKS is eventually expected to be represented in every capital city in Australia.
Next stop - National Awards in October!
Winners from SA and WA will go head-to-head with other regional winners - and the other national category nominations - at the MYOB Excellence in Franchising National Gala Dinner to be held on Saturday 18 October 2008 in Sydney.
Comments from the FCA
According to FCA's Executive Director, Steve Wright, franchising in Australia represents a dynamic and entrepreneurial small business sector contributing positively to Australia’s GDP. Franchising employs some 600,000 people in over 64,000 workplaces and represents annual sales of approximately $128 billion.
The healthy and robust state of franchising is clearly evident in the calibre and quantity of all nominations received in the MYOB Excellence in Franchising Awards, with nominations in all categories up on last year's figures. This prompted State Ministers to comment on the well developed franchising sector and the importance it plays in the Australian economy.
