India’s franchising industry booms with many opportunities for Australians
With India’s franchising industry growing at 35% a year, this boom represents many opportunities for Australian franchise businesses.
According to Franchising World Top 100 annual survey, which included over 1000 franchise brands currently in India, this growth rate will continue to rise at the same pace for the next coming years. The report also highlighted that franchising was one of the most ideal method of expanding business and brands within the Indian consumer market.
“Franchise industry in the country has been growing at a positive rate and most of the brands have been opting for the franchise route to tap the vast Indian consumer market,” says Gaurav Marya, President of Franchise India, speaking on the report.
“Our report features brands from varied backgrounds starting from an established, international, national to emerging, these findings of the report re-establish the fact that franchise is the next route of growth for brands in the country.”
However, Tony Maddock of Solutions Franchising Group says there are a number of factors Australian franchise systems have to consider before making the move to India.
"A number of different religions operate over there, so that's just got to be taken into account. Where we're going, which is Delhi, they're predominantly Hindu, so that means they will predominantly be vegetarians and so there's stuff like that that's going to be taken into consideration,” said Maddock to Franchising Magazine on his insights in the Indian franchising industry.
According to Maddock, food franchises will be one of the easier business franchise systems to introduce to India. Currently The Coffee Club, Burger Edge and Yarra Valley Farms are all expressing their interests in the potential franchise opportunities within the Indian market.
