Wollongong Fastway franchise shines
The Wollongong Fastway franchise won the prestigious Regional Franchise of the Year beating 24 other regional franchises around Australia.
What makes this win even more amazing is that the regional courier franchise partner and owner of the business, Anthony Hamod is the youngest regional franchisee in the global Fastway franchise network – aged only 28 years old.
Hamod credits fantastic success of his courier franchise largely due to his youthful energy and excellent support team, in particular his General Manager, Brett McMahon who is in charge of the daily operations of the depot.
“When I first bought the regional franchise, I could see great potential, especially with the right people I put in place. The Courier Franchisees were willing to invest the time and effort into their businesses and Brett McMahon was willing to learn and listen. Since then, I have to say I have never met a more committed and enthusiastic group of people.
“I often refer to the business as a partnership between my mobile franchise, Brett and the operational staff. Without these high quality people I would not have a business, let alone it being as successful as it is,” Hamod said.
Hamod is a successful testament to the Fastway franchise system. He joined the Fastway franchise support office in 2002 as a field officer, at the ripe old age of 24. He was by far the youngest field officer ever but he impressed management that they decided to give him a chance.
After two years, not content to just work with business owners, he wanted to become one, by buying the then lacklustre courier franchise in Wollongong, his home town.
There were a lot of sceptics who felt that at the age of 26 Hamod was far too young to handle his own depot, plus that a Fastway franchise so close to Sydney would never amount to much. How wrong they were.
Within a few months Hamod has turned the franchise around. Working hard, following the Fastway franchise Fato the letter and above all motivating and inspiring his courier franchisees to grow their business has been the recipe for success.
“The Fastway model has proven over 23 years to be a success, so I knew I could make this business work by implementing the Fastway system. My greatest challenge was earning the trust of my courier franchisees and improving their moral and enthusiasm for the business. Given the performance of the franchise in previous years this was going to be a huge hurdle to jump. However, through training, support, sales assistance and commitment I was able to pull it off,” he said.
After turning the Wollongong courier franchise into a success, ensuring he had the right systems in place and most of all the best support team, he was able to consider buying the Melbourne Fastway franchise which came into the market. Knowing that not many regional franchises come up for sale, Hamod moved quickly to secure his future.
Now, not content with owning the Franchise of the Year with 14 couriers operating out of his depot in Unaderra, Hamod intends to work his magic on his Melbourne franchise too. With 85 courier franchisees operating out of his two depots, it may be a much larger challenge, but knowing Hamod, he will be accepting his award for this Melbourne franchise soon enough.
