Fastway franchisee’s eyes on the target
The Fastway franchise “Courier Franchise of the Year” had his sights set on an even bigger target, the New Zealand Franchise Association’s top honour.
Simon Carter took out this year’s “Fastway Franchisee of the Year” award at the national conference, and that success prompted him to try out for the FANZ nationwide awards. Simon entered the business services franchise section of the FANZ Awards and was a top three finalist.
New Zealand CEO, Michael O’Driscoll, says Simon represents what every franchisor wants: Fastway franchisees that are stable, reliable and consistent. Although Simon has only been with the courier franchise for two years, he has become known for providing good customer service and consistently growing his Fastway franchise – with a 43 per cent increase in customers since he bought it.
Simon said the great thing about being a courier franchisee is having his financial future firmly in his own hands, and as owner-operator having absolute responsibility for the success of his Fastway franchise. That approach led to Simon starting Saturday deliveries. Although not contractually obliged to do this, Simon said it has been a great way to build up courier franchise customer relationships because people often have more time to chat on a Saturday.
The other main focus for Simon’s Fastway franchise is compliance.
“Compliance plays a big role in my business … I know that if my compliance level stays high then sales and profitability are almost a given.”
