Dough rises for young pizza entrepreneur

New research from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor has found that Generation Y are more likely to start a business at a young age in greater numbers than those aged between 55 to 64 years (Baby Boomers).
As the youngest Eagle Boys Pizza franchisee, Joseph advised franchising was a great option for young people to achieve their dream of business ownership sooner.
“Franchising is the answer as it makes owning your own business less risky and more accessible,” Joseph said. “With a franchise you have the expertise of a proven concept and brand behind you with all the benefits of training, regular support and reliable systems.
“University or TAFE courses aren’t for everyone and many young people find themselves wondering if they’ve studied the right thing. If I had continued studying a diploma of financial planning it would have taken me years to find a job or establish a business that would give me the opportunity I have now.”
Joseph said there were many benefits to being a young entrepreneur.
“When you get started in business early you have the time to make mistakes and learn from them. You also generally don’t have any other commitments in your life and have more energy to work long hours to establish your business.”
For the past four years Joseph has worked his way up the hospitality career ladder, starting out as an employee at another fast-food chain before becoming the manager and then owner of the Eagle Boys Pizza store in Fairfield.
“I had been working at the Fairfield store for seven months when the previous owner David Parkinson decided to let me take ownership in September. David has acted as my business mentor and friend since I started working for him at another fast-food chain and he knew that I had always planned to own my own business one day.
“I’m grateful to David and Eagle Boys Pizza for the opportunity and I’m looking forward to using my insider knowledge of the pizza industry to continue the store’s success.
“Eagle Boys Pizza is a rapidly growing company with a lot of fresh marketing ideas and a franchisee support system that has helped me to achieve my long-term goal of business ownership. Becoming a franchisee with Eagle Boys Pizza is a great stepping stone for young people to get actively involved in business.”
Joseph said he made the decision to become his own boss at the age of 15 after talking to his parent’s friends who owned businesses.
“I’ve been planning to own my own business since I was 15 after discovering that it was a great way to be successful in life and have a balanced lifestyle.”
Eagle Boys Pizza operates close to 200 stores across Australia.
