The launch of Dymocks Digital Books peaked interest and sales from the publishing industry and the general public. The digital range includes over 90,000 audible and readable titles covering such categories as business, management, computers, fiction and literature and Dymocks retail franchise are now working directly with local publishers to ensure additional titles are available to customers in digital format.
While Dymocks long term goal has always been to work with Australian publishers, a lack of digital content prompted Dymocks to launch digital initially in partnership with content aggregators, audible.com and ebooks.com, while it continued to work with local publishers toward taking digital content from them directly. Partnering with local publishers will not only give Dymocks access to a wider range of titles but will also enable them to support local Australian authors.
Macmillan’s initial foray into ebooks is substantial, covering a wide array of leisure and entertainment books and big name Australian and international authors including Matthew Reilly, Di Morrissey, Andy Griffiths, Wilbur Smith and Ken Follett. Similarly it’s many non-fiction and educational titles include Australian content such as the highly regarded Macquarie HSC Guides which will be invaluable to students wanting the convenience of being able to access the latest editions electronically.
The deal struck with Macmillan Publishers Australia gave Dymocks six months exclusivity in retailing its full range of ebooks.
Dymocks CEO Don Grover says, “The agreement with Macmillan is significant because it paves the way for Dymocks to take digital product from any publisher who has digital content ready for delivery to customers. He added, “Macmillan are to be commended for rising to the challenge of providing digital content. Like Dymocks they chose to view the growing demand for digital content not as an obstacle but as an opportunity.”
Dymocks launched digital books in November last year with over 90,000 readable and audible titles and then in December launched the iLiad e-reader.
