The Domino’s franchise innovating in the fast food sector

The Domino’s franchise was the first Australian pizza franchise to offer home delivery service in 1983. Also, the Domino’s franchise was the first and only pizza maker to use Hot Cell, an electronic portable over which ensures pizzas are delivered hot and fresh, putting it head and shoulders above the fast food franchise pack.

The Domino’s franchise became the nation’s number one pizza franchise in August 2004 with the opening of the 300^th store in Melbourne. Going from strength to strength, the fast food franchise broke through the $7 million weekly sales barrier for the first time in June 2005. It was the third time that year the pizza franchise had broken its weekly sales record.

A national pizza eating record was set on 10 December 2005 when Domino’s Pizza Bundaberg served up 5,382 pizzas in one day.

With its sights firmly set on overseas expansion, the Domino’s franchise entered an overseas market for the first time in July 2003 with the opening of four stores in Wellington, New Zealand in one month. In early 2005, the Domino’s franchise became New Zealand’s second biggest pizza maker after buying Pizza Haven New Zealand.

The Domino’s franchise features the Domino’s Pizza College, a manager training program helping transform today’s pizza delivery drivers into tomorrow’s management team. Always on the cutting edge of pizzas, the fast food franchise was the first pizza franchise in Australia to launch a dedicated pizza kitchen – the Domino’s “Luv Lab”. It develops about 10 pizza concepts a week to keep the menu fresh. All staff are encouraged to nominate new pizza topping combinations for the fast food franchise. If their suggestion graduates to the Domino’s pizza franchise menu, they will earn a $1,000 bonus.

The fast food franchise is the only pizza maker to offer Classic Crust. Current CEO Don Meij originally developed the dough which is not too thick and not too thin.
