Dominos demonstrates that healthy fast food is not just a fad

The recent Crosby/Textor poll results into healthy fast food options show that Australians need more proof from the big fast food players that they are serious about healthier options and Dominos Pizza Enterprises fully agrees with this point.

Don Meij, CEO of the pizza franchise network said that he wasn’t surprised by the Crosby/Textor results that showed just 24% of those surveyed believed healthier alternatives were a genuine attempt by fast food outlets to improve the eating habits of customers. However they did believe that the industry as a whole was taking a step in the right direction.

“Today’s Crosby/Textor poll shows that people are still getting their heads around fast food players offering healthy options, who in the past have traditionally only offered a menu which hasn’t focused on health,” Mr Meij said.

“Domino’s has made a conscious and serious effort to change our menu and provide healthier options for those who want the choice with the introduction of our Good Choice Range.

Mr Meij explained that the pizza franchise network is very serious about their Good Choice Range and even go so far as to include all nutritional information about each individual product, including calories, total fat, saturated fat, protein, carbohydrates, sodium and sugar rather than just stating the fat content or saying it’s a percentage fat free.

“What’s important to note is we have noticed our customers’ changing eating habits and to stay at the top of our game we needed to move with the times, and introduce tasty options with protein and lots of vegetables to give an overall better nutritionally balanced product.

“Our Good Choice Range is a permanent part of our menu and we plan to continue to add to the Range, starting with our newly developed Prawn and Spinach Ciabatta Pizza which will launch in May,” said Mr Meij.

A recent Choice Magazine report into the healthiest and tastiest pizzas available has found the Good Choice Range pizzas from the fast food franchise network rate the best for taste out of the healthy options available in the market.

Choice compared over 190 brands and flavours available nationally from takeaway chains and supermarkets, comparing the overall taste, energy (kJ), total fat (g), saturated fat (g) and sodium (mg) for each.
