Domino’s franchise delivering hot and fresh pizzas

The Domino’s Pizza franchise is the largest pizza chain franchise in Australia and second largest in New Zealand. It operates more than 387 stores across two countries, makes more than 40 million pizzas a year and employs more than 11,000.

As Australia’s first publicly listed pizza franchise, Domino’s Pizza has a solid growth plan to ensure that its franchises continue to grow market share and profitability.

Approximately 70 percent of Domino’s Pizza stores are owned and operated by individual franchisees, with the remaining 30% owned and operated by Domino’s Pizza. It offers franchisees a proven business model, buying power, marketing force, training and ongoing support.

In 2004-5, Domino’s Pizza opened 93 new stores – a new record for the company. This included moving into the Melbourne market for the first time where the company now has more than 35 stores. While New Zealand and Victoria have been the focus for much of the new store activity, the company is also expanding in its existing territories and expects to open at least 42 new stores in 2005-6.

Domino’s Pizza CEO Don Meij says that the company’s recent expansion has been fuelled by continued strong profits, a listing on the ASX, and a growing national appetite for pizza. “Over the past year we’ve not only opened a number of new stores, but also merged with a number of other pizza players, including Pizza Haven New Zealand, Mad Dog Pizza in New Zealand and Big Daddy’s Pizza in Melbourne,’’ says Meij. “We still see plenty of opportunities in Australia and New Zealand and we will be pursuing those in the year ahead. We have a strong growth strategy to steer our expansion and we are looking to open at least another 42 stores by the end of June 2006.”

Domino’s Pizza holds the Master Franchise Agreement to exclusively operate the fast food franchise in Australia and New Zealand. The first Australian Domino’s Pizza store opened in 1983.
