Domino’s Pizza franchise doing it for the kids

by Dominos Pizza Enterprises

According to the Domino’s Pizza franchise , Richard Roberts knows just how important it is to support young cancer sufferers.

The 14-year-old Lower Hutt resident was diagnosed with a brain tumour four years ago and has since undergone successful radiation treatment.

Richard, who attends St Patrick’s College, Silverstream, is one of several students at the school with cancer who will benefit from a unique fundraiser.

Next Wednesday, 6th September, the pizza franchise will host a Dough Raiser in conjunction with St Patrick’s College, to raise money for CanTeen, the charity supporting 13 to 24-year-olds with cancer.

One dollar from every pizza sold on the day between 11am and 11pm will be donated to the charity.

Pizza lovers are being called upon to raise some big dough for New Zealand teens and young adults who live with cancer.

The Dough Raiser is being run in conjunction with the 48-hour Boredom Buster event at St Patrick’s College, Silverstream, to raise funds for CanTeen, a charity that benefits youngsters such as Richard.

“CanTeen is great because they take us on camps often and run fun activities. I have made heaps of friends from it,” said Richard.

“Any fundraising that is for CanTeen is great because it supports a lot of teenagers.”

The fast food franchise’s Hutt Valley Regional Manager Geoff Procter said he hoped Domino’s participation would set a benchmark for further fundraising events.

“It’s great to be able to help the school. They fundraise regularly for CanTeen. We know the students enjoy eating pizza and doing it for a great cause is even better,” Mr Procter said.

With an extra five staff on hand for the day, Mr Procter said the Upper Hutt Domino’s franchise is gearing up for what is looking to be a wonderful fundraising opportunity.

“It’s the first time we have ever done something like this in this store, and we are positive it will go well,” he said.

St Patrick’s College, Silverstream, has been helping raise funds for CanTeen for eight years. This year the school aims to raise $50,000 to go towards a new children’s ward at Wellington Hospital.

The Domino’s Pizza franchise and its franchisees have 440 stores across Australia and New Zealand, employing more than 11,000 part-time and full-time staff and make more than 40 million pizzas each year.

The fast food franchise is Australia’s first publicly-listed pizza chain, making its debut on the Australian Stock Exchange in May 2005.
