“More women are looking to get into the industry. A lot more women want to work from home,” Allis said. But Allis said good support is an essential ingredient for a successful franchising career and this is a greater consideration for women with families.
“Franchising is a good way to grow but I would also recommend that someone looks at their life. You will need to get good support. Without it all that happens is you become a failure at everything (work, family and social life). But if you set yourself up to succeed, you can have it all,” Allis said.
Although Allis would like to see women better represented in business and in franchising, she understands why it doesn’t appeal to everyone.
“You can’t go into this industry with rose tinted glasses. You need to consider working 130 hours a week. Franchising isn’t something you can do at an arm’s distance. Some women feel that what they have to give is a price they aren’t willing to pay,” Allis said.
Allis runs Boost with her husband and said it is a combination of right and left brain thinking that makes them a successful team. “We do understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses. I think women are better at networking and better communicators,” Allis said.
