Baybridge Lawyers , a Sydney law firm specialising in franchise legal services, claims to be at the cutting edge of technology and expanding its legal services, both nationally and abroad in an unconventional way. The firm has recently developed an intranet service for its clients, which will enable them to directly interface with the firm during the franchisee signing up procedure. This innovative service should not only streamline the process but will also form a valuable external database for future use.

National Franchise Manager, Denis Edleston of Pack & Send , has said that ‘one example of understanding each other is to provide extra services that are really practical. Opening up our access to a password protected section of their website makes coordination quicker and easier. With 15 new stores opening each year and a number of Franchisees changing over too, it is vital to know the current status of the many documents.’

Baybridge Lawyers has also tapped into the expectations of its clients in relation to service and costs. As franchisors grow national and internationally, they are also seeking legal services from those areas. Rather than adopting the normal approach to business expansion (merging or establishing offices across the country or overseas), the firm has aligned itself with similar or like firms to ensure that its client have a consistency of service and costs.

One announcement made by the firm is its affiliation with Mason Sier Turnbull , a highly regarded firm with expertise in franchising in the Melbourne territory. Elisabeth Ritchie and Marwan Kojok of Baybridge Lawyers said that they were ‘looking for lawyers in Melbourne who we knew and could trust and in particular our clients would trust’. The partners of MST were pleased with the announcement saying that it ‘allows the firms to have a national presence but retain their own identities’.

The firm has also adopted the same principle on an international scale under the brand Unifran Alliance. This is an alliance of franchise specialist firms currently in the US with Holmes & Loftstrom, New Zealand with Stewart Germann and the United Kingdom with Hamilton Pratt all well established and recognised franchise specialist law firms.
