Sheed’s joins bakers to raise one million for breast cancer

by Bakers Delight

Bakers Delight bakeries alongside Kevin Sheedy and breast cancer survivors, have joined forces to kick off the Pink Bun fundraising campaign in an effort to raise $1million for Australian’s affected by breast cancer.

The ‘Pink Bun’ fundraising campaign will see over 630 Bakers Delight bakery franchises donate 100% of the sale of their Pink Finger Buns to Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) from 23 April – 13 May 2009.

And it’s not just Sheeds showing his support; in a team effort he will be joined by other sporting stars to promote the campaign to support women with breast cancer. Ironman - Zane Holmes, Hair stylist - Joh Bailey ,West Coast Eagle - Tom Swift and Hokeyroo’s Kate Hollywood are among them.

Breast cancer survivor and CEO of BCNA Lyn Swinburne said, “There is nothing more special than having your whole community behind you when you are on your breast cancer journey.”

“Walking into a bakery with our pink ladies all over the wall, the Bakers Delight staff dressed in pink and seeing the customers put their donations straight into our tins is very special. Our women really feel supported.”

Most importantly, money raised will help BCNA continue to distribute My Journey Kits to women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. The My Journey Kit is a comprehensive information kit distributed free of charge anywhere in Australia.

“Over 13,000 women and 100 men will need BCNA’s support in 2009. The Pink Bun campaign enables us to help these families,” Swinburne said.

Since 2000, the retail bakery franchise group has raised more than $2.7million which goes a long way towards helping support thousands of breast cancer survivors and their families in Australia.

Customers are also encouraged to leave personal tributes for loved ones affected by breast cancer on Pink Lady silhouettes to be displayed in the Bakers Delight store.

The public can get behind the efforts of their favourite bakery and vote for them online as they vie for the annual Pink Award.
