Autobarn driving passion for franchisees in automotive sector

Established originally as a cooperative in Melbourne in 1985 and converted to a franchise in 1991, the Autobarn franchise now boasts 96 stores across Australia with an annual turnover in excess of $162 million. Autobarn understands the importance of developing a franchise system that can be used by franchisees in managing their operations and directing their business through growth phases.

The system was developed initially from a franchisee's perspective, using a 'wish list' to identify what a small business operator would need by way of support and guidance to enhance and grow their business.

The automotive franchise system is constantly evolving and expanding. Services provided to franchisees are continually reviewed and refined as a result of the business strategies that are tabled by the franchisor and discussed within a structured format known as the National Franchisee Council (NFC).

The NFC has been developed to provide a forum for the discussion of advertising strategies, media choices, product and pricing featured in campaign plans, and policy and franchise system issues. This forum is a vital element underpinning the positive working relationship between franchisor and franchisees. It provides the opportunity for all aspects of the business to be discussed, and creates an element of trust and respect between both parties.

Our franchise model assists new franchisees through the acquisition of their business and supports them in the growth phases of their business via the guidance of professional support staff and the fostering of a network of individuals who have words of wisdom and knowledge to impart as a result of their own experiences. As the Autobarn system grows and strives to promote best practice franchising techniques, it is important to remember that the initial decision amongst nine members to franchise the Autobarn concept stands true today: “To provide opportunities for small to medium-sized businesses to compete, be profitable and grow by being part of a strong retail franchise group.”
