Queenslanders changing their old electric hot water unit to an energy saving solar hot water or heat pump unit can now effectively ‘Triple dip’ on rebate support.

Currently in the press there is a lot of fuss regarding rebates and many people find it a bit hard to keep up, hence homeowners could be forgiven for not really understanding what rebate is on offer for what product or how to claim it.

To this end, I will try and explain what is on offer writes Sean Cochrane, Co-Founder and Director of AllSafe Franchising Pty Ltd - AllSafe Energy Efficient Products . Suffice to say that there is good news for those home owners that have not already converted to solar / heat pump for heating.

  1. The Federal Government’s $1000 Rebate for an approved solar water heater or $600 for an approved Heat Pump, when converting from an electric water heater, is still on offer.
  2. The QLD Government recently announced that they would boost this offering with a further $1000 assistance to pensioners and $600 to non pensioner homeowners.
  3. R.E.C.S. (Renewable Energy Certificates) are also still available on all approved Water heaters. Redemptions depend on system chosen, size and RECS Values at the time of redemption. But the cash redemption values on RECS currently range between $1000 and around $1500.
  4. LIMITED BONUS - Some reputable Manufactures (Such as Dux and Rheem) are also offering Cash Back vouchers of up to $400 on selected products such as Heat Pumps, for purchase made before June 2010.
Therefore, it is easy to see that Queensland home owners who switch to an energy saving hot water system can nearly, after all rebates and cash back offers, get it for free.

It should be kept in mind that some state and federal conditions, qualification and criteria may apply.

For more information about these criteria, what the spot R.E.C.S. prices are, what your installation costs will be, advice and assistance with rebates claims and manufacture cash back offers; I would advise homeowners to pop into one or two reputable solar hot water showrooms of different companies.

Discuss the rebates and at the same time find out which product (heat pump, split solar or roof month solar) would be best suited to your home and your needs.
