Darren Schultz and Chris Collings found inspiration for their mobile coffee business, the Xpresso Mobile franchise, from a television ad showing a coffee machine strapped to the back of a scooter.
The two mates from Milton now oversee 42 two-manned operations in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.
But with hundreds of orders to be taken a day by the coffee franchise, it became apparent their ordering method was stuck in the dark ages with the humble pen and paper.
“The whole process was time consuming,” Mr Schultz said.
To come up with a solution, the mobile franchise pair asked Newstead software company Absoft to develop a mobile order-taking program.
The result, which uses two hand-held PDAs, saved enough time for the runner to collect four additional orders every 15 minutes, making the team an extra $70,000 a year.
