Melbourne-based healthy-burger business Grill’d will this month launch a nationwide search for franchisees as it launches an ambitious plan to have 25 outlets open by the end of 200 and 80 within five years.
“I believe, in our case, we will do everything appropriate to hit the numbers we are aiming for,” said founder Simon Crowe. “But I am certainly not intending to take short cuts and chase store numbers only.
“I want to make sure that our operations are right and we choose our franchisees appropriately. And I think the biggest factor for growth will be choosing, finding and selecting the appropriate properties, because I don’t want, to settle for properties that are below par.”
The Grill’d plan is that 30 per cent of stores will eventually be company-owned, with the rest controlled by franchisees. The firm claimed establishment costs for a Grill’d franchise would be between $300,000 and $400,000, with exact figures determined by store location.
Mr Crowe recently signed off on the final version of the Grill’d franchise agreement, on which it has worked with DC Strategy. A next step will be to become a member of the Franchise Council of Australia.
GriIl’d, founded in early 2004, now has four stores in Hawthorn, Malvern, Windsor and St Kilda.
