The Coffee Club’s leading barista, Anne Cooper, has been judged the best barista in Queensland for the second year in a row. The New Farm resident defended her title at the Australasian Specialty Coffee Association’s 2007 Queensland Barista Championships in March. Cooper impressed the judges with her signature drink Kaimaki -which is made up of espresso, egg white, manuka honey, white fig/date syrup and white chocolate syrup.
Cooper will go on to compete in the Australian Barista Championships. “Being a barista and an ambassador of espresso is my absolute passion, so it was fantastic to be recognised by my peers for the second year in a row as Queensland’s best barista,” Cooper said. “Working as the national barista trainer for The Coffee Club has been an excellent way to hone my technical skills and extend my creativity.”
The
food and beverage franchise's public relations director John Lazarou said the company was very proud of Anne, who has been perfecting her barista techniques for the past 15 years. “The Coffee Club is committed to providing a superior dining and cafe experience with excellent customer service. Anne’s win is an example of the dedication, professionalism and quality of our team,” Lazarou said.
Using the international standards and rules of competition set by the World Barista Committee, competition baristas are judged on their preparation of four espresso coffees, four cappuccinos and four espresso-based signature drinks. The barista is judged on technical skills as well as the flavour and presentation of the coffees.
