Sunshine Coast franchisees leading the way

At David Reid Homes, when we look for partners to join us in our franchise operations, we don’t necessarily look for a background in building. Because we already work with some of the best contractors in the business, we look for ‘people people’ to run our franchises – because that’s really what our business is all about. Our franchisees understand what it’s like to build your own home. They’ve already proven themselves to be successful in other fields and they’re ready to take on new challenges.

Growing up in New Zealand’s South Island, Steve Booth and Melissa Brinsdon would never have dreamed that they would one day be the directors of one of Australia’s fastest-growing home building operations. “I’ve been a dairy farmer all my life” said Steve. “I’ve enjoyed a lot of success with my farming business and among many thing was the National President of the New Zealand Holstein Friesians Association for two years, but it got to a point where I went as far as I could with farming and needed a new challenge. We decided our future together lay in Australia and we set about looking for a business and lifestyle change.

We looked at a few options, but we knew that the DRH model was very successful in New Zealand and with the growth in South East Queensland, we knew this was what we’d been looking for” says Steve. Whilst Steve focuses on the administration side and day-to-day management of the business, Melissa’s strengths lie in marketing and design. Her creative background in Photography and her eye for detail sees Melissa in charge of marketing and the sourcing of new and innovative products and inclusions.

“Because we are a ‘design and build’ company, we offer so much more than your standard home builder” explains Melissa. “We make a point of surrounding ourselves with a team of creative, highly skilled people – project managers, building designers, interior designers, landscape artists and others who enjoy stepping up to a challenge as much as we do.

Steve adds: “Building a home is such a personal thing, we like to spend a lot of time with our clients before we even get started. The better we know them, the better understanding we have of what they want in a home. Our motto at David Reid Homes is Raising the Standard” says Steve “and that’s what we are here to do.”
