When New Zealanders Andrew and Carol Bell started planning for their impending Silver wedding anniversary, they weren’t mucking around. “We’d always planned something big to celebrate our 25 years together, and thought we’d fly over to Australia, find a place to rent for a few days and get some friends and family together for a serious party” tells Andrew. “Before we came over, we’d been to the Home Show in Auckland and saw a display by FKP promoting land sales at Peregian Springs. When we got here, we thought we’d just have a quick look since we were here anyway. We had absolutely no intention of buying anything. But we had a look at a block, fell in love with it, bought it on the spot and decided that instead of renting, we’d build a house and have the party there.
Unable to extend their 2 week holiday because of Andrew’s work commitments with the NZ Air Force, the Bells set about frantically viewing
display homes and interviewing builders. “We went through every display home in Peregian Springs, at least twice, and
David Reid Homes were definitely the stand-out. That’s when we first met Amanda Rogers (Director, Sunshine Coast Northern), and we all hit it off straight away. She was just so friendly and professional, and not pushy at all - which was such a nice change. It didn’t take much for us to decide that we wanted to work with David Reid Homes, and Amanda moved heaven and earth to make things happen for us in the time we had left”.
Carol says that the combination of Amanda’s get-up-and-go and David Reid Homes’ management systems made the building process the most stress-free they’ve ever enjoyed. “We’d built a couple of homes before in New Zealand, so we know what’s involved. One of those was only 20 minutes down the road from where we lived at the time, but we were there every second day sorting out one drama after another. With this one we weren’t even in the country! We had to go back to NZ and we literally left everything to Amanda. She sent designs back and forth until we got the floor plan exactly as we wanted, she sent over colour swatches and paint samples - we did the whole thing by email. We only came back when the house was complete and we're absolutely stunned: it's exactly what we wanted."
Andrew concludes that it was the personal attention they received that made their experience with David Reid Homes such an enjoyable one. “When Amanda knew we were coming over to see the house for the first time, and without us knowing, she’d gone and set up some beds and a sofa for us so we had somewhere to flop in style when we arrived from the airport. She even had food in the cupboards and drinks in the fridge - she really is amazing.”
