The Domino’s franchise has cemented its position as Melbourne’s leading pizza maker with the opening of its 50th store in the city.
It comes as the pizza franchise confirmed that it has plans to eventually open more than 80 stores in the Melbourne market to meet demand, including at least another five stores in the next six months.
The fast food franchise opened its first store in Melbourne two years ago and has since created more than 1,500 jobs across 50 stores. It has also injected more than $17.5 million into the local economy through store building.
Domino’s franchise CEO Don Meij said Melbournians had embraced Domino’s Pizza’s and its model of delivering great tasting pizza hot to the door.
“Each week, our 50 Melbourne stores make about 100,000 pizzas to meet local demand – using 14 tonnes of mozzarella and 9 tonnes of pizza sauce,” he said.
“We believe there is still room for Domino’s to grow in Melbourne and currently believe there is demand for at least 80 Domino’s Pizza stores in Australia’s second largest city. In fact we continue to look for new franchisees wanting to join the Domino’s team.”
A former pizza delivery driver, Mr Meij said the pizza franchise was now on the lookout for additional delivery drivers and in-store staff as the network of stores continued to grow.
“As Domino’s Pizza provides all the necessary training, no previous qualifications are needed to become a Domino’s Pizza team member. We’re simply looking for enthusiastic and motivated people who want to have fun at work. Some people work at Domino’s Pizza simply to help them get through university studies or for a fun summer job, while others, like me, discover that Domino’s Pizza offers a lot of career opportunities.”
The fast food franchise and its franchisees operate 439 stores across Australia and New Zealand, employing more than 11,000 casual and full-time staff and making more than 40 million pizzas each year. Domino’s Pizza (DMP) is Australia’s first publicly-listed pizza chain, making its debut on the Australian Stock Exchange in May 2005.
