Still very much the heart of every home, the contemporary kitchen continues to evolve with our changing lifestyles.
At
David Reid Homes, our designers are at the leading edge of the latest trends, and they love nothing more than putting some funk into the functionality of your new kitchen. In this issue, we look at some of the emerging trends in kitchen design and discover that the kitchen is actually moving it’s way around the modern home.
A seamless room The seamless integration of the kitchen into the rest of the home is one of our clients’ most common requests. At David Reid Homes, we look to break down the traditional barriers that used to shield a kitchen from the rest of the home – creating a living space that really does get lived in. The breakfast bar is still very much the focal point, with high-set chairs for casual meals, and multiple storage areas. Our designers can even incorporate an alcove in your kitchen to house a computer – giving you easy access to on-line shopping and recipes while you work, and making it much easier to keep an eye on the kids while you’re cooking.
A moveable feast
One of the most exciting lifestyle trends we’ve seen in recent times is the movement of kitchens into other areas of the home. Outdoor kitchens are now hugely popular - fully plumbed and fitted with taps, sinks, fridges, pizza ovens and even small dishwashers. Other emerging trends our designers are concentrating on are dedicated coffee zones, breakfast zones and even wine zones – all designed as part of a seamlessly integrated kitchen area.
At the movies
With surround-sound technology and high-definition screens becoming more accessible, many of our new home designs incorporate a dedicated media room. To maximize soundproofing, the media room tends to be as far away from the main kitchen as possible - which sometimes means interrupting your movie to head to the kitchen for a drink or a snack. Our designers can include designs for a kitchenette inside the media room – inconspicuous, stylish and functional cabinets to house a small fridge and microwave – perfect for cold drinks and popcorn.
Sleek and clean
With the popularity of TV cooking shows, it’s no surprise that the commercial, or ‘restaurant-style’ kitchen is becoming increasingly popular. The look is now stainless steel benches and cabinets, underbench frosted glass fronted fridges and large ducted stainless rangehoods. With a focus on functionality and style, our designers will ensure that your new kitchen has a sleek, clean and streamlined look that hides your appliances away in cabinets, deep drawers or entire walls of cupboards.
