Kenny's Cardiology - how it began

So where did it all start?

The concept was to develop a giftwares franchise with a wonderful range of contemporary greeting cards, bears, dolls, collectables, and gifts, providing the base for a unique retailing venture and on the 28th of May 1986, that's what we did. Franchising began in 1988 and now, Kenny's Cardiology franchise stores are located in high profile regional and city shopping centres across the country.

When you walk into a Kenny's Cardiology store it is easy to see how we have developed a unique look and feel. The polished floors, wooden fittings and fixtures, soft lighting, and nostalgic background music, make it a comfortable and inviting environment for customers.

Kenny's Cardiology is known for its extensive range of greeting cards and wrap accessories. These remain our strongest lines and our clear market focus. When you add this to a broad product mix of stationery, homewares, collectables, teddy bears and plush items you have a winning retail combination.

But it is not just about how our stores look, or the product we sell; the real strength of the business is in the system that surrounds our store operators to assist them in growing their business.

Where it all comes together

The Kenny's Cardiology's business support centre is referred to as "Group Office", a team of professionals in the core divisions of Operations, Administration, Marketing, Training, Management and I.T.

The team at Group Office are available to assist you to organise and plan for every issue you may confront in the retail world. We will also assist you to market your store, organise in-store promotions, negotiate exclusive product opportunities and plan, design and publish in-store signage to suit each store.  

Training for the future

You begin your new life as a Kenny's Cardiology franchisee by attending a week long training session that will cover all areas of your business, with particular focus on product knowledge and customer service training.

As part of your ongoing training you will attend regular area meetings with your fellow franchisees, to talk about marketing, operations and products. These meetings are an excellent opportunity to establish and develop fruitful relationships with other franchisees in your area.  

In addition, the entire Kenny's Cardiology greeting card franchise group comes together for a two day conference. This is an opportunity to discuss strategies and learn about the current retail environment.

To market to market

Our marketing strategy is constantly evolving to meet our customers' needs. We do this through a combination of marketing activities.
  • Advertising, to build brand value.
  • Area or regional marketing activity, to helphighlight products in that particular region.
  • Customer loyalty marketing activity, to bring our customers back into the store more often. The foundation of this campaign is the Kenny's Club, one of the best retail rewards programs in the business.
  • Local marketing activity, to highlight your business as a good corporate citizen.

Where does it all come from?  

Product selection is a two way street, you select the products for your store, while we negotiate trading terms with our suppliers. Our negotiating powers and supplier relationships mean a better gross margin and trading terms for you, whilst maintaining the freedom to independently purchase products at group rates.

The future's so bright...

There are many opportunities for Kenny's Cardiology in shopping centres across the country. Our job at Group Office is to identify growth for the group in centres where we see a need for a specialist card and gift retailer and where we can match, the right leasing arrangement, the location, and the franchisee. We're like match makers in a sense.

So what's the magic number?

Your Kenny's Cardiology franchise will cost $215,000 (Including GST.) This includes initial Franchise Fee, Stock and Bank Guarantee. (This amount is subject to variability and change due to factors including size and layout of the store and seasonal fluctuation in stock levels.)
Also included are documentation and lease fees, government duties, one week's training and accommodation, initial uniform and stationery orders, pre-store opening assistance and an opening promotion.
