Innovative design wins Master Builders Award

When Dan and Amanda Rogers opened the first David Reid Homes Showhome in Australia, they knew they had a lot riding on their shoulders.

As New Zealand’s most-awarded residential building company, David Reid Homes had crossed the Tasman armed with an impressive reputation and a stack of enthusiasm in the form of fledgling franchisees Dan and Amanda.

“I suppose there was a bit of pressure on us, because our first Showhome was going to set the standard by which the company would be measured. But everybody involved in building the Showhome knew from the start that this was going to be a living, breathing example of the building standards we were going to build our business on” says Amanda. “What you see in our Showhome is the standard you should expect when you build with us”.

Peregian Springs was selected as the site for the first Showhome, and plans were drawn up for the “Architectural 8” – a stunning and spacious Bauhaus-inspired family home. Boasting three indoor-outdoor courtyards and two alluring water features, the home was created for the Sunshine Coast way of life, and designed specifically for the block on which it stands.

Amanda explains how DRH’s ‘Design and Build’ philosophy is founded on 3 basic criteria: “Every home we build is designed specifically around what our clients need – and want – from their home, their budget, and the block of land on which the home will be built.

“One of our mottos at DRH talks about ‘building a home as unique as you are’. Our architects will work with you to design a home that reflects who you are and what you want. We’ve got over 60 existing plans you can use as a guide to get you started, but we find most people have a pretty good idea of what they want. We’ll even modify, or build to existing plans – it’s entirely up to you” explains Amanda.

“Dan and I had very little input into the actual design of the Showhome. We gave our designer a free reign with it - he’s a really smart young guy with some fantastic ideas, and we were thrilled when he won the Building Designers Association of QLD 2006 Regional Award for his Showhome design. We always knew this home was going to be special, but then to win the Master Builders award on top of that was just fantastic” says Amanda of their 2005 QMBA ‘Best Showhome over $380,000’ Award.
