Australian packaging giant Visy Board is set to slice the cost of Domino’s Pizza’s franchise box production following the signing of a five-year supply agreement for Australian and New Zealand stores.
Pizza franchise CEO and managing director, Don Meij, says the company expects to generate cost savings of up to $250,000 to the Domino’s Pizza network store system and its franchisees in the first year of the agreement.
“The result of more than six months of testing, Visy Board has utilised a special grade of paper that addresses our need for a lightweight, durable and cost-effective product,” Meij says. “Being the number-one pizza maker in Australia, we also benefit from an economy of scale in the number of pizza boxes we need. We produce more than 40 million pizzas each year and every box must be strong enough to hold in heat and moisture without causing the pizza to sweat.
“Pizza boxes also play an important role in the product’s branding and imagery, so the paper’s ability to boost the impact of our promotional print is equally important.”
