The Domino’s Pizza franchise has celebrated the opening of its 300th franchise at Bayswater, an outer Melbourne suburb, effectively making it the largest pizza franchise in Australia.
“Over the last 12 months we have grown more than 20 percent and opened 48 new stores – a record for the company,” says Domino’s CEO, Don Meij.
“Coupled with this, we have entered our last two remaining markets, New Zealand and Melbourne, and now have a strong presence in both. By the end of this year, we expect to have more than 20 stores in Melbourne and 85 stores within three years.
“Overall I see the Australian market having room for around 500 Domino’s Pizza stores and we are working towards that goal over the next four years. This will involve organic growth as well as acquisitions.”
Domino’s Pizza Australia began as Silvo’s Dial-A-Pizza in Red Hill, Brisbane, in 1978. It now sells more than 35 million pizzas a year and generates annual turnover in excess of $250 million. Of the 300 stores, about two-thirds are owned by individual fast food franchise partners.
