How many Cafe 2U franchise units do you have in Australia? 51
What kind of marketing and training support do you offer franchisees?
New franchisees to the system undergo an intensive three-day training package which covers the following topics:
- Coffee appreciation
- Baristas training
- Frappe
- Operations
- Food safety / handling
- Business development
In addition to the above, a Franchisee Support Officer spends the first 3 days out on the road with the new franchisee and is available via the phone as often as is required. The Franchise Officer will periodically spend time out in the field with each franchisee providing support and guidance.
New franchisees are issues with the following marketing collateral:
- Shirts
- Caps
- Aprons
- Flying banner
- Business cards
- Menus
- Loyalty cards
- Special's flyers
In addition to the initial marketing pack, franchisees can order marketing collateral on line via a website.
On average, what is the estimated annual salary of one of your franchisees? Very difficult to provide an average for two reasons. One, we do not solicit revenue data from our franchisees and two, franchisees are looking for different outcomes from their business. Some seek to maximum their revenues and are constantly pushing and driving the business hard, whilst others are content to reach a certain figure then coast along. Salaries of between $80,000 PA to $100,000 PA would not be uncommon.
What kind of criteria does a prospective franchisee require to be part of your network? The main thing is that they require a personality suited to hospitality. Everything else we can teach them.
What are the up-front costs and ongoing franchise fees associated with your franchise?
- Initial investment - $94,500 Ex GST
- Ongoing franchisee fee - $123 indexed to CPI
- Ongoing marketing fee - $20 indexed to CPI
What is the current climate of your market, and is there room for growth for more franchisees? The current climate is excellent as the coffee culture in Australia goes from strength to strength. Whilst out Sydney market is now reaching saturation, the Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide markets remain untapped. These 3 markets in particular are relatively immature markets for the mobile espresso business model and are set for explosive growth over the coming 12 to 24 months. The first franchisees in to these markets will do very well indeed.
