The PoolWerx franchise, of Balcatta, is the best pool store in the state, according to the Swimming Pools and Spas Association of WA.
The association chose the pool franchise, which is part of a nationwide chain of shops and mobile pool/spa technicians, in its annual competition.
The Balcatta PoolWerx franchise was selected after satisfying a series of criteria that included appearance, stock levels, presentation, shop layout and appeal to the public.
Kevin and Debbie Harrington own the pool franchise and Mrs Harrington said she was really chuffed about being chosen.
“There are many fine pool stores in WA and to be chosen as the best is astounding; we are over the moon,” she said.
“We have been told we won the award because we satisfied all of the criteria as well as providing a wide range of equipment, professional advice and a good selection of pool toys.”
Mrs Harrington says she has had many inquiries from people concerned about picking up infections from pools and spas.
She said people could be at risk from infection from poorly maintained pools and spas.
“infections can be caused by a number of micro-organisms, some of which may be naturally present on hair or skin or in our ears, mouth, nose, intestinal and urogenital tract,” she said.
Mrs Harrington said extra vigilance was needed in areas of high use and elevated temperature, such as spas.
The PoolWerx franchise sells chlorinators, automatic pool cleaners, pumps and filters to suit different pools ad there is a working aboveground pool in the showroom that shows staff to demonstrate pool products.
Fibreglass pools need to maintain a correct Ph level and because the wrong level can affect the pool surface through osmosis.
This can cause the fibreglass to bubble, allowing possible breaks in the walls and requiring the pool to be resurfaced.
She said the pool franchise maintained and installed pool heating, as well as blankets, which were important to ensure water did not evaporate.
The PoolWerx franchise is looking for more franchisees in WA and independent pool shops can join the network without paying an initial franchise fee.
