The Hudsons Coffee Journey
From its first store in Melbourne’s CBD just under ten years ago to now
operating 44 stores across five states, Hudsons Coffee is something of an
Australian success story. After sipping their way across Europe and North
America, long time friends Ros Turner and Mark Hawthorne realised that
Australians were missing a trick. Why couldn’t coffee be this fantastic,
affordable and convenient down under?
The business concept was simple yet one that would keep customers coming back,
Hudsons Coffee would provide great quality coffee, quickly and conveniently
without charging an arm and a leg for the pleasure.
1998 saw the opening of the very first Hudsons Coffee store in the CBD of
‘coffee mad’ Melbourne which was warmly received by the caffeine loving locals.
In little over five years, Hudsons Coffee grew from one to 25 stores. With a
proven success model under the belt, Hudsons Coffee branched out into franchises
in 2003 with an existing store in South Australia. Now nearly half of the
Hudsons Coffee 44 stores are franchise operations.
2008, the tenth anniversary year for the Australian coffee company, is proving
to be just as busy, with Hudsons Coffee planning several new store openings and
expanding into the extensive hospital and airport markets across Australia.
Our Sites
Although we’ve come a long way in ten years, we are continually working on
evolving our brand and we’re not the shy and retiring types if we see an
opportunity:
- Following our first store opening in Melbourne’s CBD in 1998, we now have
sites in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Launceston and Hobart.
- In 2000 we opened our first airport site and now have several across Australia
raising our profile with thousands of travellers every day.
- In 2004 we opened our first regional site and are now represented in regional
areas in NSW, VIC, SA and TAS.
- In 2005 we opened our first hospital site. It turns out they really liked our
coffee and we now have 10 stores with several more on the horizon…
As you can see, we’re dedicated to exploring new opportunities and as a result
we now operate stores across five Australian states with more on the way – watch

Average Store Cost: $300k + (inclusive of Franchise Fee $60k)

Don’t panic if you’re not already a coffee connoisseur, by the end of our
intensive 8 week training program, you’ll be empowered with all you need to run
a successful store. From learning how to operate the coffee machines, to
stretching the milk (yes milk can be stretched) through to the facts and
figures, we cover it all so you’re ready when the thirsty customers come
flooding in.
We have friendly staff that know their stuff (and their coffee) and are ready to
share it all with you. The extensive training programs that we have in place
have a proven track record with franchisees going on to run thriving Hudsons
Coffee stores across Australia.
So you’ve learnt all about coffee, you know how to drive the machine and you’ve
got your head around the spreadsheets, what now? Once you’re behind the counter
of your very own store, you’ll have a dedicated consultant on hand to answer
questions and queries as they arise. They’ll even pop in to see you every 4 – 6
weeks for more training and development to ensure your store is the best it can
be.

send you an application form and once we receive your application, we’ll give you a call to discuss becoming a
franchisee and find out a little more about your background and experience. If
we have the right blend, we’ll invite you for an interview (over a coffee of
course) to discuss the opportunity further.
As the process progresses you will need to sign a confidentiality deed and a
small deposit is required. We will provide you with a franchise agreement,
disclosure document and any other information that you require in order to make
an informed decision. You will also have an opportunity to get your hands dirty
by working in one of our existing stores. We’ll also introduce you to the
Hudsons Coffee Founders and Directors who have lived and breathed the brand from
their light-bulb moment ten years ago to what Hudsons Coffee is today. We want
to ensure that by the time you open your own store, you’ll be as passionate
about Hudsons Coffee as we are.
