How did Healthy Habits begin?
As a single mother with two children, I needed to take control of my life and I believed business ownership was the key. I purchased a small sandwich bar in suburban Victoria and soon realised the opportunity to grow the business to take advantage of the growing desire people had for healthy fast food. It was a lot of hard work but the Healthy Habits concept was born and it has grown to become one of the most popular healthy fast food franchises in the market.

What does the new partnership with the Dymocks Group mean for Healthy Habits?
Simply, the deal is about growth. Both companies recognised strong synergies between one another and seized the opportunity to grow Healthy Habits – an already strong and successful brand. We are in a rapid development phase now and the strength and experience of the Dymocks Group will be invaluable to Healthy Habits Franchise Owners.

What advice do you have for a potential franchisee?
Research, research, research – know the business you are considering inside out. Don’t be afraid to try a new industry as the true benefit of franchising is the proven systems, training and support provided. Simply, you don’t have to “go it alone”.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Talk to existing franchisees about their experiences. Read the franchising trade magazines, newspapers, and websites and attend franchising exhibitions to make sure you have as much information as possible to make the best possible choice.

Above all else, know what your goals are and why you want to be your own boss. It will be a very rewarding choice but it does involve hard work, commitment and passion.

60 seconds with a Healthy Habits Franchisee

Michael and Lorissa – Healthy Habits multi-site Franchise Partners at Westfield Fountain Gate and Knox City (VIC); winners of the “Australian Retailers Association Franchisee of the Year Award 2008”.

Why did you decide to open a Healthy Habits store?
Lack of job security and flexibility in the industries we were in forced us to change direction. Our working hours were dictated by client schedules and we had no freedom. We decided to look for a business opportunity that would allow us to achieve our financial goals but would also give us a better balance between work and home life.

We hadn’t seen anything like Healthy Habits before and were attracted to the brand because its values of promoting healthy food and a healthy lifestyle matched our own.

What has been the key to your success since you opened your first store in 2005?
Training and hard work! When we opened our store we had no food industry or business experience. With Healthy Habits’ support and ongoing training we started to believe we could make it work, and we have had great success. The structure, support and confidence they provided convinced us we had made the right decision and could really build a great business.

In the beginning, it took a lot of sacrifices and drive but we’ve been able to grow the business now to a point where we have much more flexibility and are able to control our own hours. It has been one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.

We’ve been so successful that we’ve been able to open a second Healthy Habits store. For us it has been an important goal to continue growing our business and we’re confident Knox City will enjoy the same strong growth we’ve had at our first store at Fountain Gate.

Michael and Lorissa did it - so can you!

At Healthy Habits our franchise partners are part of our success! We are now in an excellent position to add to our existing 30 stores and would love to welcome equally committed and passionate franchise partners to join our team. So contact us NOW!

With a Healthy Habits franchise you can share in a bite of an industry generating an appetising $7 billion per year!
